Hardacre served in the 2nd Volunteer Battalion, Bishop Auckland. He was in 3 Company. He went out to South Africa numbered 8093, probably with Andell. He had the same clasps for his Queens South Africa Medal as  Andell but with the addition of the 1902 clasp – so six in all.

He was later re-numbered 3154 serving with the DLI in WW1 but was transferred to the Labour Corps and re-numbered again as 65407. His medals are numbered for his DLI service.

He was a tailor by trade and had been born in B. Auckland in 1880. He enlisted for service in S. Africa on 25th Jan. 1900. He served is S.Africa from 23rd Feb 1900 to 6th June 1901.
